The holiday of Yom Kippur gives us the chance to reflect on the past and the lessons learned from loved ones no longer with us. This tradition, known as Yizkor (remembrance), is a mainstay of the synagogue service, and is a uniquely communal experience of reciting prayers for those who have died.
At this year's Yom Kippur Yizkor service at Manhattan's Central Synagogue, DOROT's former Pastoral Intern (and current Central Synagogue Rabbinic Intern) Rebecca Thau delivered a beautiful sermon, reflecting on her experiences connecting with an older adult through DOROT's Cemetery Visit program and how we can carry those we've lost with us.
