Friendly Visiting - Westchester
Enjoy a mutually beneficial friendship with an older adult by joining DOROT’s corps of Westchester Friendly Visiting volunteers. A signature program of DOROT since our inception in 1976, Friendly Visiting continues to be one of our most impactful programs. Volunteers and older adults connect through ongoing weekly visits, building long-term relationships while enjoying meaningful conversation and engaging activities on a weekly or monthly basis.
Birthday Visits & Calls
Volunteer to make birthday visits or calls to older adults! Perfect for volunteers looking for flexibility in their volunteer schedule.
Tech Coaching
Coach an older adult across the digital divide. DOROT's Tech Coaching volunteers provide 1:1 support for older adults who want to learn and practice new technology skills on smartphones, tablets and computers in the comfort of their own home or over Zoom. Patience, comfort with technology and enthusiasm for helping people learn are all that’s needed.
Intergenerational After School Chess - Westchester
Are you a high school student who knows how to play chess? An older adult 60+ who either plays chess or is interested in learning? DOROT’s Chess Program welcomes you! Become part of this meaningful community service program. It takes place Wednesday afternoons during the school year at a high school in Westchester.
Legacy Projects
Legacy Projects give older adults the opportunity to share their life stories through narrative, art and photography. DOROT connects seniors with volunteers who visit them at home to capture memories, words of wisdom, photos and more in one-on-one oral history-type projects. Each project is unique and presented in a range of formats reflecting individual preferences.
GENuine Connections
Teens and older adults meet weekly over Zoom in small groups to talk and participate in activities ranging from creative writing, chess, art, current events and so much more, leading to the discovery of new and shared perspectives. Volunteer today and experience the rewards of intergenerational friendship!
Caring Calls
